About
Nina Canter New York is a unique apparel brand based on three pillars: elegance, quality, and sustainability. The primary goal of the brand is not exponential growth, but to demonstrate the beauty of slow fashion. We aim to impress customers with our level of precision and understanding of materials.
Clothes are not easy to make, but they are a necessity. Because of this combination, harvesting raw materials and manufacturing clothes from them has always been a point of exploitation. I'm sure you can think of a few examples. It seems irresponsible of us to be a clothing brand without being conscious of this. It also seems irresponsible to buy clothes from fast fashion brands, but that's not what we're saying: the problem isn't in consumers buying the clothes that they feel they can afford, it's in the choices of clothing companies primarily motivated by capitalism.
Organic or sweatshop free clothing is sold at a premium, and often alongside their cheaper counterparts. It's unappealing or unreasonable for consumers to spend the extra money, and it's difficult for companies to switch to ethical methods without raising prices and losing out in competition. Even luxury brands are known to have moral problems in their supply chains, and many of them burn their extra stock to keep their exclusive prices high. The industry-wide standard of cruelty and wastefulness is a product of capitalism, and the current market ensures that straying from that standard is costly.
Nina Canter New York doesn't aspire to be the next Louis Vuitton or Supreme, but a respectable source of high quality clothes and the knowledge that comes with them. Many people don't know how much better organic cotton feels than the current standard, and if they only knew they might look for it on the tag next time they are out shopping. We aim to inspire consumers to learn more about the true humanitarian and environmental cost of the regular T-shirt, and we hope to persuade other businesses to value this idea and build on it.
We also do music videos.
